A young faith-healer was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing an elderly woman and dumping her body in a drum in the Korangi area.
The body was found inside the drum in the Bilal Colony area in Korangi. Police said they retrieved the body upon the information provided by the arrested man.
Police said the body was around five to six days old and the suspect also confessed his crime. The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Ziaur Rehman and the deceased as 61-year-old Zahida Bibi. Her body was transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy.
Police said the suspect revealed during the initial course of interrogation that the woman had visited him last week to seek blessings. He added that as the woman was wearing gold jewellery, he was tempted. He killed her by hitting her head with a hammer. He then placed her body in a drum.
Police said they took the suspect into custody after the victim’s husband, Noorul Islam, informed them about his missing wife. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
