AIDS awareness
This letter refers to the editorial ‘Aids and ignorance’ (December 2, 2023). AIDS is one of the fatal diseases that Pakistani people are facing. The causes behind our inability to check the rising number of cases are manifold.
Many of our AIDS cases can be found in the rural areas, due to a lack of awareness of the disease and how it spreads. This leads to practices such as needle sharing and many AIDS patients who do not know that they have been infected, facilitating the spread of the disease.
In order to address this issue, the government should provide free screenings for AIDS, especially in the rural areas, and initiate awareness programs to make people aware of the disease, its consequences, and how to avoid it.
