BANNU: The personnel of the Police and Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) on Thursday defused explosives planted to a police station and saved the area from deaths and destruction.
According to police officials, the terrorists had planted 10-kilogram explosives to the main gate of the Saddar Police Station in a bid to destroy the police station.
The police said that terrorists had tried to trigger an explosion but the explosives could not go off and the timely action of police and Bomb Disposal Unit prevented the area from possible destruction.
They said that it could have caused many casualties and destruction if the planted explosives detonated as there was always a rush of people and hustle and bustle remained on the busy road along the police station.
Recently, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat had said the KP Police faced security challenges in the southern parts of the province but he hastened to add that the law and order situation had improved in the rest of the province.
The IGP had said that around 236 terrorist attacks were thwarted and 235 terrorists killed in encounters with police. Police arrested about 731 terrorists this year.Similarly, 33 terrorists were penalized by courts due to successful investigations.
The Counterterrorism Department (CTD) conducted 1,866 operations against terrorists based on intelligence reports, including 37 most wanted terrorists whose head money was worth around Rs7.9 million. Besides, 731 terrorists were arrested.
