Two killed for resisting mugging attempts

Two people, including a food delivery rider, were killed and another person was injured in separate incidents of firing in the city on Tuesday.

According to police, 35-year-old Arsalan Shamshad was shot at near the Matric Board Office in Nazimabad. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and then shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died. 

Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that two suspects on a motorcycle attempted to rob Shamshad.

He resisted, after which the robbers shot him in the chest. The deceased was the second among five siblings and lived in North Karachi.

He worked as a rider for an online food delivery app for the past one and a half year, mostly doing the night shift. The FIR of his murder has been registered.

In another incident, 44-year-old Saleem Habib was killed near Aligarh Bazaar in Orangi Town. Police said that according to eyewitnesses, Habib was walking in the street when robbers attempted to snatch a mobile phone from him. Upon showing resistance, the suspects opened fire on him, which proved fatal. The deceased belonged to Swat and was involved in the cars’ business in Karachi. He was the father of four children. Police said they were investigating the incident from different angles, including personal enmity.

In the Korangi area, 28-year-old Shahrukh was shot injured at his gas cylinders’ shop. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medical assistance. Police said the motive behind the firing was unclear. However, they said they were suspecting it to be a robbery attempt or an extortion threat.
