ISLAMABAD: In the first round of talks between Pakistan and the United States this month, a delegation led by US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration Julieta Valls Noyes arrived in Islamabad on Monday.
Delegation-level talks will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The talks focused on the recent influx of foreign nationals living illegally in Pakistan, including a large number of Afghan nationals. to begin their return home.
The issue of Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan whose initial cases for resettlement in the United States have been settled will also be discussed. In the second phase of the talks, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West will visit Pakistan next week, followed by Elizabeth Hurst, who is Assistant Secretary of State. Meanwhile, according to diplomatic sources in Islamabad, the visiting official will also meet partners from non-governmental and international organisations during her visit to Pakistan.
