ISLAMABAD: Former chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf Imran Khan has requested the Supreme Court to expedite the hearing of a chamber appeal filed against objections raised
by its registrar’s office to his petition challenging the promulgation of the Official Secrets (Amendment) Act, 2023, and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act, 2023. Imran Khan submitted that he had filed a petition in the apex court against the promulgation of the Official Secrets (Amendment) Act, 2023, and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act, 2023, citing Article 75. He argued that the impugned amendment acts were promulgated without the assent of the President and, therefore, cannot be notified as law.
He contended that his petition faced objections from the registrar of the Supreme Court, as per the order dated September 15, 2023. In response, he filed a chamber appeal, which is currently pending and has not been scheduled for a hearing. Given the utmost importance and sensitivity of the matter, along with its public importance involving fundamental rights, the former PTI chairman stressed the need for an expeditious decision.
