Promotion of education, research vital to growth, says governor

LAHORE: A delegation of students and teachers of Balochistan Residential College Zhob and Cadet College Hasan Abdal called on Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman at the Governor’s House here Monday.

The delegation comprised Prof Khurshid Bukhari, Prof Akbar, Prof Sardar Ali, Mirza Saeed Ahmed, Mudassar Hasan, and others. Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that the promotion of education and research was vital to the development of the country. He said that in today's modern era, learning new research and technology is very important. 

He said that the students should adopt positive thinking and play their role in the development of the country. He said that Cadet College Hasan Abdal is an institution of high traditions.

He said that seats and scholarships are reserved for students of Balochistan in universities and medical colleges of Punjab. He said that when the laptop scheme was launched, the students of Balochistan were also included in the scheme so that they can be brought at par with other provinces of the country in the field of education. He said that under this scheme, laptops were given on merit to the outstanding students. He said that the country can progress only with the supremacy of merit. Governor said that continuity of policies was very important for the development of the education sector and other sectors.

He said that equal development of all the four units was very important for the development of the federation.

Moot on Mathematics begins

The 2nd two-day international conference on ‘Recent Advances in Mathematics’ started at the University of Education (UOE) here on Monday. Around 1,300 national and international researchers from 15 countries are participating both physically and online in the conference being organized by the UOE’s Department of Mathematics.

A total of 100 research papers will be presented in the conference. The opening ceremony was held in the UOE Township Campus which was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Alam Saeed while the chief guest was Vice-Chancellor of Government College, University (GCU) Lahore, Prof Dr Ahmed Adnan. On this occasion, the Conference Chair Prof Dr Muhammad Azam welcomed the participants and explained the aims and objectives of the conference.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Alam Saeed said that the aim of this conference was to provide an intellectual platform to contemporary researchers and scholars to share their research work with diverse national and international researchers/scholars.

The conference will provide an opportunity for researchers to discuss the current socio-industrial ground realities as well as the latest developments and research perspectives in the field of mathematics. A large number of teachers, staff and students including Prof Dr Rana Abrar Hussain, Prof Dr Asad Miraj, Prof Dr Muhammad Umar Saleem and Dr Abdul Majeed were also present.
