Envoy to file credentials to Putin on 6th
ISLAMABAD: An important message from the leadership of Pakistan would be conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday next (December 6) when Pakistan’s ambassador designated for Russia Khalid Jamali will meet him in Kremlin and submit his credentials to the host president.
Well-placed diplomatic sources told The News from the Russian capital on Saturday evening that ties between the two countries would come up for discussion during the meeting as Islamabad and Kremlin enjoyed a cordial relationship.
They are improving these days at a satisfactory pace. Interestingly, Ambassador Khalid Jamali has already conveyed to Russian government Pakistan’s desire to become member of the BRICS before formally assuming the assignment in the Russian capital. Russia besides China is favourably disposed to Pakistan’s inclusion in the organization. It is likely Pakistan’s membership would be decided in the summit to be held in the Russian city Kazan in October next year. President Putin will chair it.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia will become member of the BRICS on January 1 next year. Argentina was also invited to become part of the group but it declined. The BRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
