BARA: A cop performing duty during the anti-polio campaign was martyred when unidentified armed men opened fire on him in the Bara tehsil of Khyber tribal district here on Friday, official sources said.
It was learnt the police were on duty during the polio drive in Malikdinkhel area when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them near the Malikdinkhel Nala check-post of the tehsil.
A cop identified as Siddique Khan, son of Fareed Khan, lost his life on the spot while the cop accompanying him returned fire, killing one of the attackers.
Soon after the incident, the police personnel reached the place and cordoned off the area.
They launched a search operation but no arrest was made till the filing of this report.
