NIMA hosts insightful talk on Held Kashmir policy

Islamabad:In a significant event held at the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) in Islamabad on December 1, 2023, Admiral (r) Muhammad Zakaullah, former chief of the naval staff and chairman of NIMA Board of Advisers, presided over a focused talk on the 'Indian Kashmir Policy - Implications and Way Forward.'

Designating the Kashmir issue as the unfinished agenda of the 1947 partition, Admiral Zakaullah emphasised India's persistent disregard for international commitments regarding a plebiscite under UN arrangements.

The esteemed gathering welcomed Mushaal Hussein Mullick, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Human Rights & Women Empowerment, as the guest of honor. Mullick underscored the necessity of a plebiscite in accordance with UN resolutions as the only viable path forward. Additionally, she urged Pakistan to expose human rights atrocities and international law violations committed by India, cautioning against attempts to alter the demography of Indian-occupied Kashmir. Mullick proposed a UN-backed census on both sides of the divide.

Vice Admiral (r) Ahmed Saeed, DG NIMA, in his opening remarks, declared Kashmir as the core issue between India and Pakistan. He highlighted the systematic erosion of Kashmiri identity and culture by the Indian government post the annulment of Article-370 & 35-A in 2019.

Prominent speakers, including Dr. Adam Saud, Syed Muhammad Ali, and Ambassador (r) Nadeem Riyaz, emphasized the urgency of crafting a compelling narrative to expose the true face of the BJP Government and Hindutva ideology. They advocated for robust diplomatic and media campaigns to mobilise the international community on the Kashmir crisis.

The event witnessed the participation of ambassadors, analysts, academia, media representatives, think tanks, students, and university faculty. The discussions aimed at shedding light on the current situation in Kashmir, urging concerted efforts to address the challenges.
