MARDAN: The Academic Staff Association (ASA) of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (Awkum) has demanded the government to probe the alleged malpractices by the vice-chancellor.
A general body meeting of the Academic Staff Association at Awkum was arranged on Friday, with ASA president Dr Zafar Hayat Khan in the chair.
A number of university teachers and office-bearers attended the meeting.The participants of the meeting thoroughly discussed the persistent issues faced by university employees.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof Zahoor-ul-Haq was criticised for alleged mistreatment of teachers, nepotism, delays in selection boards, late payments to contractors at the end of his tenure, and the denial of disparity reduction allowance since the year 2022 and Ad-hoc Relief Allowance for 2023.
The speakers called for an independent and transparent government investigation into the serious allegations, including of corruption, raised by employees against the vice-chancellor at a press conference last week.
The meeting unanimously decided to give the administration time till Tuesday to address their demands.If the demands were not met, a protest camp will be set up in front of the VC office starting from December 5.It was decided that a white paper documenting the three-year term in office of the VC will be issued by the faculty.
