The consul general of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Karachi, Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, who is popular among social and business circles in the city due to his ability to fluently speak Urdu, on Friday traced similarities between Pakistan and Arab poetry.
The UAE diplomat talked about Pakistani and Middle Eastern poetry as he appeared in an exclusive session on the 2nd day of the 16th International Urdu Conference being held at the Arts Council of Pakistan here on Friday. Renowned TV news presenter Uzma Alkarim conducted the session.
The UAE consul general told the audience that he had been staying in Karachi since 2002. He said that he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Pakistanis who did philanthropic work to help out those in distress.
The UAE diplomat said that he had carried out welfare activities on the ground to help out the victims of the 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods in Pakistan. He said the founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, had immensely loved Pakistan.
Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi said that numerous books in Urdu would reach the UAE through the Pakistani government and Arts Council for their translation into the Arabic language. He informed the audience that several books on Pakistani and Sindhi culture were now available in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.
He advised the prospective Pakistani-educated youth to enrol for Arabic language courses before embarking on their journey to the UAE to do a job or business.
