Punjab CM declares livestock emergency in Bahawalpur, DG Khan
DERA GHAZI KHAN: Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi conducted a comprehensive tour here on Thursday visiting the Institute of Cardiology, Veterinary Hospital, Livestock Business and Incubation Centre in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Chief Minister issued directives to ensure the full functionality of the Dera Ghazi Khan Institute of Cardiology and to urgently address the shortage of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff. Additionally, he declared a livestock emergency in Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, emphasising the need for an immediate plan to boost livestock production.
Accompanied by provincial ministers Amir Mir and Ibrahim Murad, CM Naqvi thoroughly inspected the basement, ground floor, and first floor of the Institute of Cardiology. He scrutinised key facilities, including the gamma camera, CT scan, and MRI room, as well as the hospital’s cafeteria and waiting area. A detailed examination of the Cardiology OPD was also conducted.
Addressing the media following the visit, Naqvi highlighted the relief being provided to patients in South Punjab through the DG Khan Cardiology Institute. He expressed the vision to elevate the institute’s standards in cardiology, equivalent to major cities, aiming to enhance hospital services and streamline patient experiences.
Later, CM proceeded to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Business and Incubation Centre. There, he observed the ultrasound process for goats in the ultrasound block and inquired about the facilities from a goat owner.
Emphasising the need for a sustainable strategy, Naqvi directed the formulation of a plan within seven days to increase livestock production by tenfold. Considering the rising demand for livestock in the UAE and other countries, he underscored recent positive discussions during a visit to the UAE regarding the export of livestock products.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab visited Sheikh Zayed Hospital at Rahim Yar Khan where he inspected the new cardiac centre. He thanked UAE on the construction of a cardiac centre. Naqvi ordered to shift the office outside from CCU. CM directed for the upgradation of a nursing hostel. He visited OPD, oncology and other wards.
Meanwhile, CM Punjab undertook an unannounced inspection of the Ghora Chowk flyover late at night, following his return to Lahore from a visit to the UAE and Kuwait. During the visit, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi assessed the project’s progress and meticulously examined the ongoing construction efforts of the flyover. Notably, he scrutinised the nocturnal development activities without prior notification.
Naqvi, observing a reduced workforce during the night shift, directed an increase in labour numbers to ensure timely completion of the project.
