ISLAMABAD: The management of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has furnished the complete record of the varsity to the Supreme Court of Pakistan as sought by the court.
On November 20, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isd had expressed concerns over the maladministration of International Islamic University and suggested that file pertaining to the appointment of vice president (Administration) of the university be made available for consideration of board members on the forthcoming meeting of the board of trustees.
The Chief Justice had send letters to President of Pakistan/ Chancellor and Board of Trustees, Chief Justice, Federal Shariat Court, Member Board of Trustees, Chairman, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Member board of Trustees, Secretary, Ministry of Federal education and Professional Training, Government of Pakistan, Member Board of trustees, Pro-Chancellor, Member Board of Trustees and President and Member Board of Trustees of the International Islamic University, Islamabad.
The Chief Justice had observed that the International Islamic University had been established by law as a public sector university, adding that maladministration had undermined the standard of the university and it had lost its international status in Islamic ethos.
“The university did hold the stipulated minimum number of meetings, the last meeting was held almost three and a half years ago, on 30 June 2020,” read the CJP letter.
In response, Professor Dr N B Jumani, Vice President (Admin and Finance) of International Islamic University provided complete data, including minutes of the last meeting of board of trustees.
It was submitted that there were three vice presidents and four director general appointed at the university, adding that there were 137 directors, deputy directors and assistant directors working at the university.
The letter also included details pertaining to members of different faculties besides giving details about the last and current budget of the university. Similarly, it also provided details pertaining to budget of the university for financial year 2022-23 and 2023-24.
It was informed that that the current financial health of the university was not different from many other public sector institutions, adding that the university was facing a budget deficit in the tune of Rs500 million.
It was further informed that the university was trying its best possible efforts to make optimum usage of available financial resources comprising of government grant, development project and university’s own sources, with severe austerity measures.
It was submitted in the letter that during 2022-2023 the total strength of students was 28,050 with 14,278 male students and 13,772 female students.
The Supreme Court was also informed that there were some 949 male foreign students enrolled at the university with 426 female students at present.
