Awareness moot held on plastic items
LAHORE: Punjab University Department of Food Sciences Clean Green Champions Team organised an awareness seminar and cleaning activity regarding plastic-based materials.
Chairman Department of Food Sciences Dr Shinawar Waseem Ali, QC Lead M Shahzad Ahmad, Production Team Lead Khalil ur Rehman, faculty members and students attended the moot. Addressing the participants, Dr Shinawar said most of the plastic pollution is generated from the packaging materials of food items and it is certainly a complex issue and special training is required to tackle the issue rather than mere education.
He said plastic have been part of daily life due to their versatility, durability and low cost, however, in developing countries like Pakistan, it has been a major pollutant, that not only affect the environment, eco-system, animal and marine life, but also is a major cause of deadly diseases in human beings.
‘Advances in Materials Science’ conference begins
The 2-day 4th International Conference on ‘Advances in Materials Science (AIMS 2023)’ has started at University of Education, Lahore on Wednesday.
The scholars and scientists from all over the Pakistan, UK, China, Germany, Spain, Malaysia, Egypt, South Africa, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Argentina and Iraq are participating in the event. More than 120 talks will be delivered by eminent scientists from all over the world in-person and through Zoom meetings. The conference was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Alam Saeed while Vice Chancellor Punjab University of Technology Rasul Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam was the chief guest of the ceremony. The Director Division of Science and Technology Prof Dr Rana Abrar Hussain highlighted the objectives of the conference. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Alam Saeed said that with the help of progress in the field of materials science, we can overcome the crises like energy faced by the world, especially Pakistan.
