A man was shot dead during a mobile phone snatching incident in the Korangi area on Wednesday.
The incident occurred near Korangi No. 2½ within the jurisdiction of the Zaman Town police station. The victim was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Irfan Masih, son of Ilyas Masih, a resident of Korangi.
Police reported that at the time of the incident, Irfan was riding his motorcycle home when assailants on motorcycles intercepted him, brandishing firearms and snatching his mobile phone. After taking the phone, the robbers checked it and returned it to Irfan, instructing him to unlock it. When Irfan resisted, holding his phone and attempting to flee on his motorcycle, the robbers fired at him from behind and fled the scene.
The family of the deceased criticised the police for what they thought was inadequate action against such incidents. Irfan’s brother, Pervez Masih, expressed frustration, stating that his brother operated a shaved ice stall in a popular shopping mall in Karachi. He demanded justice and accused the police of failing to make adequate efforts.
The father of the deceased demanded justice. The family called for accountability and justice for their loved one. According to the police, efforts are underway to obtain CCTV footage for the identification and arrest of the suspects. A case has been registered.
