A video went viral on social media last week in which a citizen apparently being tortured and robbed of money can be seen, but police say he is a robber and was wanted in several cases.
DIG Asad Raza, chief South Range, said on Monday that this is not a case of a short-term kidnapping, and a person named Danish has been taken into custody under Section 54. A patrolling mobile of the Sahil police station had arrested Danish, who was standing by his car in a deserted place at 3am on Saturday.
The patrolling policemen had asked Danish the reason for standing alone late at night, and he had misbehaved towards them. The police brought him to the police station. Later, it was found that Danish was a dismissed policeman, who was allegedly involved in serious crimes, including robbery, theft and police encounters.
Danish has more than seven FIRs registered against him and he is out on bail. At the time of his arrest, Rs52,000 and a mobile phone were found on him, which were returned to him at the time of his obtaining personal bail. Moreover, Danish is alleged to a habitual offender and was dismissed in a police encounter case in Ferozeabad in 2015.
