Lahore again on top of world’s most polluted cities
LAHORE:Once again, Lahore reached the world’s top 10 most polluted cities as the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 420 on Monday morning.
Data released by the EPD revealed that at 9am, the AQI was 420 at Lahore College for Women University, Jail Road, at 12pm, it was 341 at Punjab University, at 3pm, it was 295 at PCSIR Complex Muslim Town and at 4pm it was 250 at Punjab University. It is pertinent to mention that despite taking all measures and implementing restricted movement, the atmosphere of the provincial capital remained poisonous. Environment experts said all the short-term measures taken by the caretaker Punjab government have failed in bringing down smog.
Environment experts believed that the layer of smog would continue to thicken if there was no rain in a day or two. They warned that it would become very dangerous for the citizens to breath outdoors and the smog would directly and indirectly affect the citizen’s health. Overall the City witnessed a cloudy and hazy weather. Met officials said a westerly wave was present over the eastern part of the country.
