Addressing a public gathering in Korangi Town on Sunday, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that if the state does not give power to the people, the party would take to the streets of Karachi to run Pakistan.
“If the people are not empowered, Pakistan will be run from the streets of Karachi. We are giving the state another chance to empower the people through constitutional amendments.”
Siddiqui said that those who cannot win hearts want to take over the city. The Pakistan Peoples Party has been in government for the past 15 years but it could not ensure the availability of clean drinking water in the city, he added.
MQM-P Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal said on the occasion that “we don’t need ministries, but we need to take the power out of the houses of the prime minister and the chief minister, and bring it to the doorsteps of the
people. We want the power to be in the hands of the people”.
“Only the chief minister has been empowered, due to which the provincial sovereignty has failed. This black night of oppression must end now. We didn’t create Pakistan just for tolerating oppression in it.”
He urged the powers that be to give a chance to the people of the city, and they would pay off the IMF debt in a year and run Pakistan. “We are giving a chance to the rulers to ensure district autonomy through a constitutional amendment, otherwise the decision will be made on the streets.”
MQM-P Senior Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar said that February 8 would be a day of political death for the landlords and Waderas occupying Sindh. He said that those who become the city mayor with five per cent votes would also be eliminated on February 8.
Empowered citizens and independent local governments are the guarantee of the security of the country, he added. MQM-P Senior Deputy Convener Nasreen Jalil also addressed the public meeting.
