LAHORE: Provincial Information Minister Amir Mir in a statement issued here on Saturday, said that the government is considering the adoption of cloud seeding technology for artificial rainfall.

He said cloud seeding, a cost-effective method for stimulating precipitation, is set to be implemented at specific locations in provincial capital. He, however, acknowledged that the success of cloud seeding hinges on the presence of clouds in the sky, making it challenging to provide a precise schedule for the process.

Elaborating on the technical aspects, Mir explained that cloud seeding involves the dispersion of special salts onto clouds to induce artificial rain. In anticipation of the operation, preparations are underway to mobilise aircraft equipped for the spraying process.

He added that the actualization of cloud seeding for artificial rain is contingent upon the activation of the aircraft, underscoring the government's commitment to deploying effective measures for environmental improvement.

Mir refuted claims of allocating Rs35 crore to induce artificial rains to control smog, dismissing such news as baseless and beyond facts.

The minister asserted that no summary detailing the expenditure of 35 crores on artificial rain has been submitted to the finance department. Emphasising fiscal responsibility, he clarified that crores of rupees are not spent for artificial rain under any circumstances.
