ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar Wednesday said it was the Federation’s responsibility to ensure equitable distribution of resources in all the provinces.
The prime minister chaired a meeting on the power sector reforms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and welfare of families of martyrs of war on terror here.
Kakar said the federal government will protect the rights of people of all provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was also briefed on the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He directed release of funds immediately allocated for counter-terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Kakar said the Martyrs Welfare Fund should be immediately distributed to the families of martyrs. He said families of the martyrs were the nation’s benefactors and no delay in payment allocated for their welfare would be tolerated.
He directed the Wapda officials to remove all obstacles in the way of net hydel profit payments to KP on priority basis.
The prime minister was also briefed about the ongoing hydropower projects and construction of water reservoirs across the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Kakar said construction of water reservoirs and hydropower projects in the country should be completed on a priority basis.
Meanwhile, the caretaker prime minister said climate change had become a matter of national security for countries like Pakistan, despite their least contribution to environmental degradation.
He said this while chairing a meeting here on the upcoming COP 28 conference to be held in the United Arab Emirates next month. The prime minister will represent Pakistan in the high-level segment of the event.
Meanwhile, the caretaker prime minister Wednesday said the creation of awareness of social welfare projects among the people was essential for public benefit.
The prime minister, in a meeting with Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme and Founder of Akhuwat Foundation Dr Amjad Saqib, and Chief Executive Officer of Dunya Foundation Mian Amir, said the BISP’s huge database could prove very beneficial for the social welfare projects. The prime minister was briefed about the “Adopt a Family” project jointly launched by Dunya Foundation and Akhuwat Foundation. In a meeting with a 15-member delegation of Zameendar Action Committee of Balochistan, the caretaker prime minister directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the process of solarisation of tube-wells in Balochistan. The delegation was headed by Kazim Achakzai. He directed the secretary Ministry of Energy and Balochistan chief secretary to meet the delegation and ensure just resolution of their problems.
