PESHAWAR: Caretaker Chief Minister Syed Arshad Hussain Shah has instructed relevant officials to expedite work on the ongoing hydropower projects under the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) and initiate new feasible projects.
Presiding over the 14th PEDO Policy Board meeting, he called for working around the clock to ensure maximum hydropower generation in the shortest possible time.Caretaker Provincial Minister for Science Technology & Information Technology Najeeb Ullah, Advisor to Chief Minister on Energy and Power Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah, and other officials attended the meeting, said a handout issued here.
The caretaker chief minister urged the immediate appointment of the Chief Executive Officer for the newly established Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Grid and Transmission Company to ensure its prompt functioning.He called for an accelerated pace on the PEDO’s-approved hydel power generation plan to achieve significant progress in the coming months.
Highlighting the abundance of water resources in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the chief minister stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy and fast-track implementation plan to harness these resources for self-sufficient power generation.
He stated that affordable and eco-friendly electricity could be provided to the people, creating employment opportunities by supplying additional electricity to local industries at competitive rates.
