Catching up with emerging techs: DoST to have collaboration with GIK Institute
SWABI: A delegation from the Directorate General of Science and Technology (DoST), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, visited Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology on Wednesday to deliberate on how to boost their collaboration and catch up with new emerging technologies.
The visit was aimed providing opportunities for young educated youth to flourish in their fields and play a role in the country’s economic and social improvement.The DoST delegation included Taza Gul, the director, Wiqar Ahmad, deputy director, Planning and Development, Saud Khattak, assistant director Monitoring and Evaluation, and Naveed Khan, assistant, Planning and Development.
The GIK Institute negotiation team was led by Rector Prof Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Prof Dr Hasan Zaidi, Sardar Aminullah Khan, and Prof Dr Wasim Ahmad Khan.
The DoST team visited the catalyst, GIK Institute incubator where videos of the success stories were shared with them. Prof Wasim told the delegation how they train the young, educated people from across the country in the incubator.
In one of the projects, a drone built by GIK Institute was shown spraying the agriculture field and various other such innovations were highly appreciated by the visitors.The team members also visited the advanced manufacturing process laboratory in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering where the newly built machines were shown to them.
Prof. Wasim briefed them on how these machines work, why they are valuable for the industry in manufacturing and how these were produced.The delegation members showed interest in the machines and their functions and production enhancing capacity. In a meeting with the Rector, Taza Gul said: “The trust has been developed with the GIK Institute. Whenever there was a project of DoST, GIK was our first priority.”
Prof. Khalid said the GIK Institute was ready to collaborate with DoST and contribute according to their demand. Prof. Wasim said:” We should devise a mechanism on how we can move forward in a productive way to deliver according to the requirements of the country”.
