PU wins seven projects shortlisted in Innovation Expo
LAHORE: Punjab University Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering has won 7 out of 13 projects shortlisted by Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) in Innovation Expo 2023.
The PHEC has arranged the 'All Punjab Universities Innovation Expo 2023' to provide a platform for tech enthusiasts and entrepreneurial minds, particularly among teachers and students, to showcase their creative research and innovations to industry experts, business professionals, investors, and the general public. The event featured participants from over 40 universities from Punjab province presenting their innovative projects.
Out of the 13 projects shortlisted by PHEC from the University of the Punjab, 7 hailed from the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (IMME).
A research team led by Prof Dr Mohsin Ali Raza, Director IMME, alongside Dr Zaeem Ur Rehman and Umar Latif, a PhD scholar, presented the project titled 'In situ growth of nickel ammonium phosphate ribbons on nickel foam for supercapacitor applications.' This project secured the first position, earning a cash prize of Rs100,000 in the mechanical/electronics/civil/metallurgy/industrial/mechatronics engineering category. The winning project aimed at developing an efficient electrode material for supercapacitors, addressing the high demand for energy storage devices in renewable energy applications while offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional batteries. Later, Chancellor / Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman presented the first position award to Dr Mohsin Ali Raza.
PU teacher honoured
Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) had awarded Dr Muhammad Hameed, Chairman of the Department of Archeology, Punjab University, with the ‘International Postdoctoral Scholarship (IPDS)’ to pursue his post-doctoral research at the University of Toronto, Canada.
PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has congratulated Dr Muhammad Hameed on this achievement and said that this was an honour for the Department of Archeology and Punjab University. Dr Hameed thanked PU VC Dr Khalid Mahmood and Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Amra Raza for their support.
VU gets int’l award
The International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) has awarded the 2023 ICDE Prize of Excellence to the Virtual University of Pakistan during the 29th ICDE World Conference 2023 held in Costa Rica, Central America.
According to a press release, the award was presented by the Secretary-General and President of ICDE. This Excellence Prize for 2023 was unanimously decided by an international committee of experts in recognition of the Virtual University's extensive contribution in the field of open, flexible, and distance learning. ICDE, an international organisation based in the Netherlands, has a membership body of more than 200 institutions from around the globe. The Rector of Virtual University of Pakistan, Prof Dr Arshad Saleem, received this award during the conference held at the National Convention Center of Costa Rica, hosted by UNED-San José, Costa Rica.
