4,444 profiteers fined, 128 shops sealed in 21 days

In the last 21 days, the city administration, as reported by the Commissioner’s Office, has taken substantial action against profiteering, imposing fines totalling Rs696,000 on 97 individuals across the city on Wednesday alone.

The comprehensive report issued on Wednesday said that 4,444 shopkeepers and vendors faced fines amounting to Rs16.8 million. Moreover, 128 shops were sealed for violating official price regulations, and 15 shopkeepers were incarcerated due to price violations.

District-wise, the report outlined specific measures taken by the administration. In District South, 1,028 shopkeepers were fined Rs4.2 million, with three violators being sent to jail. Thirty-seven shops were sealed as part of this 21-day campaign.

District East reported the sealing of five shops and the imprisonment of four profiteers by assistant commissioners, imposing a collective fine of Rs2.193 million on 546 profiteers. District Central authorities sealed 50 shops and issued fines totaling Rs4.7 million to 543 shopkeepers found selling essential items at excessive prices. Three violators were also incarcerated.

In Malir District, 872 shopkeepers were fined a total of Rs1.3 million, resulting in the sealing of ten shops. Moving to District Korangi, 553 profiteers were fined Rs2.6 million, while five violators were sent to jail, and 14 shops were sealed. In District Keamari, 384 profiteers faced fines of Rs0.413 million, leading to the sealing of 12 shops. Finally, District West witnessed 518 shops fined a total of Rs1.224 million during this 21-day campaign to curb profiteering. The measures reflected the commitment to ensuring fair pricing and combating undue profiteering practices.
