Police have arrested a disabled person following the killing of a teenage boy in celebratory gunfire at a wedding in the Korangi area of the city.
A 14-year-old teenager, Areeb Shah, son of Rafaqat Shah, was seriously wounded in a firing incident that took place in Korangi No 2½ late on Friday night.
He was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, police reached the area to investigate the incident.
The police took the deceased boy’s cousin into custody on firing allegations. According to Zaman Town SHO Zameer Hussain, the suspect, Shakeel, was a polio patient and he had been transferred to the police station along with a wheelchair.
The officer said the suspect apparently fired in the air while sitting on his wheelchair during the wedding ceremony and a 9mm pistol had also been seized from the suspect's possession.
According to the SHO, the suspect and the deceased were relatives and the teenager’s family had refused to lodge a case. He, however, said the police would register a case on behalf of the state.
