PTI flays police for arresting Keamari workers
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Karachi spokesperson in a statement has said that the PTI is not allowed to hold rallies or corner meetings but it remains a popular party among the public.
He said that police on Saturday arrested PTI Youth Wing members in the district of Keamari where a party convention was scheduled to be held.
He said police had initiated a crackdown against the PTI in Keamari. Party leaders Javed Iqbal and Khan Muhammad were harassed at their homes, while former PTI MPA Shah Nawaz Jadoon's house was also raided by the police.
The spokesperson said Jadoon was not present at his home. However, after harassing his family, the police arrested his brother and took him along although the party had informed the district administration about the corner meeting.
The statement read that creating obstacles to the electoral campaign of Tehreek-e-Insaf was beyond comprehension. “Such illegal arrests cannot dampen the enthusiasm and passion of PTI workers,” it said, asking the Karachi police to correct their “direction”.
It further stated that police, after targeting the PTI leadership, was now focusing on local organisation representatives. The party urged the chief justice to take note of politically motivated actions against the PTI.
