LAHORE:Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has completed Shahdara Flyover project in a record time of six months against the scheduled time of 10 months.
The flyover was opened to traffic on Thursday by the Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi. LDA Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed told The News that due to the continuous monitoring and visits of the caretaker CM and LDA DG, the flyover was opened for traffic four months earlier.
He said at Shahdara, two 850-meter-long two-way flyovers, each with three lanes, connected to GT Road, N-5 were constructed. He said Shahdara flyovers would solve the long-standing problem of traffic on the main entry and exit routes of the City. Addressing the gathering, Naqvi said Shahdara flyover Project was started five months ago and today it has been opened for traffic.
Naqvi said the people of Shahdara were promised that in a few days the soil would be removed from the sides of the project and beautiful plantation would be done.
Mohsin Naqvi also thanked the provincial ministers, contractors, DG LDA, Chief Engineer LDA, district administration, journalist community and other authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, the caretaker chief minister visited the ongoing Cavalry Underpass and Ghora Chowk flyover projects here on Thursday. Accompanying him were Provincial Ministers Amir Mir, Bilal Afzal, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, and IGP Dr Usman Anwar.
The Ghora Chowk flyover, with 75 per cent of shuttering and steel fixing completed, was advancing well, while the Cavalry underpass has initiated asphalt work. Mohsin Naqvi observed the placement of heavy girders on the underpass roof, meticulously reviewing the projects' advancements.
Expressing the significance of these projects, the chief minister highlighted that their completion would establish a signal-free corridor from Centre Point Gulberg to Ghora Chowk Defence Mor. The beneficiaries will include residents in Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, CBD, cantt, Cavalry Ground, DHA, and Walton.
