In a major development in the murder case of a biochemical engineer in District East of Karachi, police investigators have recovered mobile phones of the victim.
The 45-year-old engineer, Sohaib Naseer, who was the lone son of his parents, was shot dead by unidentified persons near Chandio Chowk within the limits of the Sachal police station on Wednesday.
The mobile phones were picked by two ragpickers near the Quetta Town area. Through technical assistance, police traced and detained the ragpickers who in their initial statement said they had found the mobile phones in a garbage dump.
“The killers snatched cell phones, a 2014 model Reborn car and a wallet of the victim before shooting him,” said Sacchal Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Ghulam Hussain Pirzada while talking to The News.
“They [killers] threw mobile phones at a garbage dump and took away the car with them. It seems that they are professionals but this model of car is not commonly snatched, and usually when cars are snatched, the snatchers do not kill the person. These circumstances make the case mysterious, and investigations are under way,” said the officer.
The SIO said the mobile phone data and call phone records were also being verified to get help in the probe. The victim lived in Nazimabad while his office was located in the Hill Park area, but besides his regular job, he was also involved in the sale and purchase of cars and it is yet to be ascertained why he had come to the Chandio Chowk area, the officer said.
The funeral prayers for Naseer were offered on Thursday, after which he was laid to rest at a local graveyard. SIO Pirzada said that nothing could be said exactly about the actual motive behind the incident as the investigations were at the preliminary stage. The police were trying to probe the case with the help of ground evidence and the technical assistance, he added. A case has been registered against unidentified suspects.
