AWKUM employees announce to continue protest

MARDAN: All Employees Association of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) announced to continue their protest till a probe is conducted against the vice-chancellor over reported corruption and also demanded placement of the vice-chancellor’s name in the exit control list (ECL).

The demands were made at a press conference by Chairman of the All Employees Association, Mazamil Khan, President Adnan Saeed, Senior Vice President Jawad Sangar, General Secretary Inam Afridi, Focal Person Amir Ali Shah, Media Incharge Ali Khan and other members in Mardan Press Club on Tuesday.

Pakistan People’s Party central leader Khawaja Mohammad Khan also joined university employees in the protest.The Association’s office-bearers rejected the transfers of 350 employees to the Timergara campus and unlawful demotion of 71 employees.

They also criticized the attempts by VC Zahoorul Haq for extending his tenure terming it unconstitutional, and demanded a transparent investigation by the government into the substandard and incomplete works carried out at the university over the past three years.

They also demanded inquiries into the misappropriation of funds in medical bills, illegal use of seven vehicles for the vice-chancellor’s residence with their petrol charges, violations of university laws and HEC laws.

They also criticised 110% increase in students’ fees and demanded its reversal, and also demanded a probe into illegal appointments under the VC.
