ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party senior leader Mian Raza Rabbani expressed his strong reservations over the agreement between Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) to roll back 18th amendment through constitutional amendment.
The PPP leader said that no constitutional amendment would be accepted without a national consensus involving all political parties in the parliament and the federating units. “Agreement between political parties for political expediency to amend the Constitution, 1973, is limited to them and not the national spectrum,” he said while commenting upon the agreement between PML-N and MQM-P on a planned constitutional amendment for the electoral alliance.
Senator Raza Rabbani also accused the establishment, saying it is a move of the establishment to roll back the 18th Amendment. Without naming MQM-Pakistan, Raza Rabbani said one political party from Karachi has already announced to roll back of the 18th Amendment. The establishment must realize that rolling back of the 18th Amendment will have disastrous effects on the federation, the PPP leader warned.
