In a three-day operation against profiteering, the city administration has taken decisive action by arresting three shopkeepers and sealing 26 shops for violating the government’s prescribed price lists for essential commodities.

According to a press statement issued by the Commissioner’s Office on Monday, assistant commissioners have intensified their efforts to combat profiteering, resulting in the apprehension of three shopkeepers and the closure of 26 shops over the past three days.

This crackdown aligns with the directives of Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajput, who has demonstrated a commitment to the efficacy and success of the campaign.

A press release from the Commissioner’s Office said that 440 shopkeepers received fines totalling over Rs3,853,000. Additionally, three profiteers were arrested, and 26 shops have been sealed as part of this operation.

Commissioner Rajput emphasized the city administration’s dedication to providing essential food items to consumers at reasonable prices. To achieve this objective, the administration has held several meetings with relevant associations, traders, wholesalers, and retailers to establish fixed prices for essential commodities.

Commissioner Rajput urged officers to actively enforce these fixed prices and cautioned against leniency towards profiteers. In a notable step, Rajput has chosen to personally oversee the ongoing campaign. Officers involved have been directed to submit daily reports to the Commissioner’s Office.
