Unidentified assailants on motorbikes gunned down a mosque’s muezzin in Orangi Town on Sunday night. The victim was on his way to attend a Naat Khawani programme when the incident of firing, which appears to be a target killing, occurred.

According to details, the incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Pakistan Bazaar police station, in Orangi Town’s Gulshan-e-Bihar Colony, where unidentified motorcyclists shot the muezzin, who was on his motorbike at the time of the incident.

Upon receiving information, police reached the crime scene, where a large crowd had gathered. Police then transferred the body of the deceased to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completing the medico-legal formalities.

According to SHO Shakeel Rind, two empty shells of a 9mm pistol were found at the crime scene. The victim was identified as 40-year-old Maulana Rahmatullah Attari, son of Kabiruddin Attari.

The deceased had suffered a gunshot to the face, which proved fatal, while the other bullet had missed him. The victim was the muezzin of Allah Wali Masjid. He was on his way to recite Naat at the Naat Khawani programme.

He was a father of one. According to police, the incident of firing appears to be a target killing because nothing was stolen from the victim, and he apparently had no enmity with anyone. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
