140 awarded degrees at Awkum convocation
MARDAN: Governor Ghulam Ali said on Saturday that the problems of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (Awkum) employees would be solved.
Speaking at the 5th convocation of Awkum, the governor said that there was no dearth of talent in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He distributed degrees to 140 students completing masters/bachelor/MPhil/PhD studies of the session 2019 in the convocation. He also presented gold, silver and bronze medals to 74 students for outstanding positions.
“We have to move forward with tolerance and all problems be solved through dialogue,” he added.
The governor congratulated the students, parents and faculty members. Awkum Vice-Chancellor Dr Zahoorul-Haq, parents, faculty members and students attended the ceremony. The governor congratulated the faculty members for maintaining the academic, financial and administrative discipline of the university.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Ali held negotiations with a delegation of Awkum Employees Association, who have been on strike for fulfilment of their demands for the last several days.
A press release from the association said the governor listened to the issues and demands of the employees and invited them to the Governor’s House, assuring them of resolving all issues.
Mardan Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Zahir Shah, VC Zahoorul Haq, the association chairman Muzammil Khan, president Adnan Saeed, and other office-bearers attended the meeting.
The association members said they would decide the future course of action regarding the ongoing protest at a meeting in the Central Library, Garden Campus, tomorrow (Monday).
