LANDIKOTAL: Pakistani customs appraisal officials seized millions of rupees worth of Indian-made goods at the Torkham border, officials said on Friday.
Customs Superintendent Mujahid Khan and Inspector Muhammad Ayaz Khan told journalists that acting on a tip-off, they intercepted two empty trucks (C-16199) and (E-7273) coming from Afghanistan. They recovered 21,400.48 kilograms of steel-made nails, 4,800 packets of fireworks items, and other goods concealed in hidden cavities of the trucks.
The officials stated that the seized items’ market value was approximately Rs11 million.Mujahid mentioned that following the directions of the customs appraisal collector Peshawar, they have enhanced checking and searching mechanisms to curb all forms of smuggling from Afghanistan. The drivers have been detained and trucks impounded. An investigation has also been initiated against them.The arrested individuals were identified as Muhammad Qasim and Mian Abdullah Jan.
