Universality of Shakespeare’s works highlighted
LAHORE:Punjab University’s Urdu Development and Translation Centre organised a seminar on ‘Shakespeare and Urdu literature’.
On this occasion, Prof Dr Shahab Yar Khan from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Amra Raza, Director Urdu Development and Translation Centre Prof Dr Zahid Munir Aamir, former Director of Iqbal Academy Pakistan Muhammad Sohail Umar, faculty members and students were present.
In his address, Dr Shahab Yar Khan said that there were many intellectuals in the world of literature but no other could make such an impact as Shakespeare on world literature. He said that every region of the world tried to adopt Shakespeare because the universality of his works.
Prof Dr Zahid Munir Aamir gave a reasoned discussion on the introduction of Shakespeare in Urdu, his early translations and the motivation behind these translations. He called Allama Iqbal's poem written for Shakespeare a great tribute.
Prof Dr Amra Raza said that the efforts of the Urdu Development and Translation Centre in the promotion of literature were commendable. Sohail Umar said that the people of Europe were also benefiting from the services of Dr Shahab for literature.
Alzheimer’s disease awareness session
Punjab University’s Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) Department of Public Health’s Nutrition and Well-Being Society in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Pakistan organised a seminar on ‘Alzheimer’s disease awareness lecture & dementia friendly session’ at its auditorium.
The purpose was to inform students about Alzheimer’s disease in Pakistan. On this occasion, Director ISCS Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar, programme manager Alzheimer’s Pakistan Muhammad Salman, Dr Nauman Ali, Dr Muhammad Naveed Tahir, faculty members and students were present. In his address, Muhammad Salman shed light on the taboo regarding Alzheimer’s and dementia, and corrected some myths.
He shared his work on Lahore Day Care Club for patients with memory loss. Dr Nauman Ali briefed the students about the need of awareness in our society regarding mental illnesses and dementia. Dr Muhammad Naveed Tahir encouraged the students to be more cooperative and empathetic towards people suffering from dementia and memory loss conditions.
Seminar on national integration
Punjab University’s Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) organised a seminar on ‘Constructing a Historiographic Saga for the National Integration in Pakistan: Problems and Prospects.’
On this occasion, Chairman, Department of History & Civilisation Studies, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan Prof Dr Muhammad Shafique Bhatti was the keynote speaker while Director PSC Prof Dr Naumana Kiran, Associate Professor Dr Amjad Abbas Khan Magsi, faculty members and students of various departments were present.
Dr Shafique Bhatti said that we as a nation have to create a proper narrative to strengthen national integration in Pakistan. He also highlighted the issues that are impediments in the way of national integration.
