Superintendent of Adiala jail submits reply on contempt plea

ISLAMABAD: The superintendent of Adiala Jail on Wednesday submitted his reply in the special court on a contempt plea filed by the PTI chief against jail authorities for not allowing him to talk to his sons on WhatsApp.

PTI chairman’s lawyer Sheraz Ahmad Ranjha appeared before the court. However, the hearing was adjourned until Monday as Judge Abul Hasnaat Zulqarnain was on leave.

Superintendent Adiala Jail furnished his reply to the court. In his reply, the jail superintendent said he Superintendent of Adiala Jail presented his reply to the court. In the response, the jail superintendent expressed his inability to facilitate communication between the PTI chief and his sons. He mentioned that on October 18, special arrangements were made allowing the PTI chairman to communicate with his sons abroad.

Nevertheless, there was no permanent provision available to facilitate such communication for the PTI chief abroad. He suggested that the court could direct the Punjab Home Department to amend rules for this purpose. Additionally, he highlighted that prisoners are permitted to contact their families and lawyers through Public Call Offices (PCOs) in jail.

The superintendent of the jail said that he never intended to violate any court orders and requested the court to dismiss the contempt petition against him.
