ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has made the decision to extend the validity of registration cards for Afghan refugees residing in the country by an additional six months.
Sources say the caretaker federal cabinet has approved a proposal through circulation to extend the stay of Afghan refugees and their family members who were previously registered in Pakistan under the Proof of Residence (PoR) programme. The registration cards of these Afghans had expired on June 30, and following the cabinet’s decision, they have been extended until December 31.
Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar told a press conference on Wednesday that around 1.4 million Afghans were registered under the PoR and are residing in the country.
