This refers to the news report ‘Terrorist attacks on military installations are tactical, not strategic’ (Nov 8) by Dr Farrukh Saleem. I disagree that these attacks have ‘negligible impact on the country’s overall strategic operational capability’. An attack on any military installation from within the country is bad and can have a negative effect on the morale of the forces. Undoubtedly, our defence mechanism is resilient. We have been facing these attacks for decades, but we have remained firm in our determination to stop the enemy at the gates with resilience.
Yet again we need to understand that attacks like the one carried out a few days ago are not normal for any society. Our borders are being manned by alert systems and soldiers and are well protected. This is all the more reason to worry considering that these terror attacks and attempts to disrupt peace are coming from within. We should not let our guard down and must find ways to eliminate the source of such threats.
