Death anniversary of father of Zaka Ashraf held
BAHAWALPUR: The 40th death anniversary of Al-Haaj Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, former Senator (Sindh) and renowned industrialist and founder of Ashraf Group of Industries, was held in Bahawalpur.
Ch Muhammad Ashraf is father of Chaudhry Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, Chairman Ashraf Group of Industries, Chairman Pakistan Sugar Mills Association and former president of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited and Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board.
A large number of officers, politicians, farmers and others attended the death anniversary. The speakers paid tribute to the struggle made by Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf to introduce revolutionary measures in the field of agriculture and rebuilding of socio-economic conditions in the remote areas. They also acknowledged the services offered by Ch Muhammad Ashraf in the field of social welfare works. It is worth mentioning that Ch Muhammad Ashraf not only actively participated in business and social activities in Sindh, but also worked as an activist of independence movement of the Muslims of sub-continent under the guidance of his uncle Chaudhry Rahmat Ali Khan, a close associate of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Later, he got selected as Senator from Sindh during the regime of Shaheed prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He departed from this mortal world in November 1983. His invaluable contribution in social and welfare activities, political field and industrial sector will always be remembered. —PR
