RAWALPINDI: Security forces and intelligence agencies Tuesday found a mysterious bag containing an explosive device in Gorakhpur on the Adiala Road, around one kilometer from the Adiala Jail.
A passerby spotted the suspicious bag, prompting him to alert the local authorities.
Police, paramilitary forces, Bomb Disposal Squad and firefighting units rushed to the spot, the area police said.
Talking to this reporter over phone, Regional Police Officer (RPO), Rawalpindi Region, Khurram Ali Shah, said the relevant forces reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the device and handed it over to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). The RPO said the device was placed about one kilometer from the Adiala Jail.
During the process to defuse the device, the BDS found a computer, hard disk and special wires attached to the device, sources said.
Sources said the explosive device weighed over 1.5 kg.
Sources in the CTD said terrorist outfits were using IEDs to terrorize the general public.
