Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar on Tuesday visited the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT), where he met SIUT founder Dr Syed Adibul Hasan Rizvi and inquired about his health, then watched a robotic surgery conducted in the institute’s robotic surgery theatre.
On his arrival at the SIUT, the Sindh caretaker chief minister was received by Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Executive Director Prof Shahid Rasul and the Dow University of Health Sciences’ Prof Dr Sajida Qureshi.
Baqar presented a bouquet of flowers to Dr Rizvi, and prayed for his good health and long life. “You are an asset to this country, and your presence is a matter of satisfaction for me.”
The interim CM was then taken to the robotic surgery theatre, where, during the operation, he asked a number of questions about the surgery procedure. He was shown the advantages of robotic surgery over conventional laparoscopic surgery in dealing with cancer patients. He asked several questions about the increased advantages of robotic surgery and the cost of disposables. He was later taken to a presentation on robotic surgery.
He was told that robot-assisted surgery has been the top innovation in the field of surgery. What makes robotic surgery useful is its ability to make fine and precise actions under the command of human surgeons, Dr Rizvi said.
