In a meeting held at his office on Tuesday, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab engaged with a delegation of police officers, including participants from the 50th Specialised Training Programme and the 26th Initial Command Course.
During the meeting, Wahab emphasised that the primary challenge in Karachi was political grudges, which often hinder efforts to address issues due to the interference of influential groups.
He underscored the necessity of upholding the rule of law for effective solutions. Wahab also pointed out that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) controls 27.4 per cent of the city's land, and the mayor lacks a direct administrative relationship with other governing bodies.
Furthermore, he noted that the Sindh government lacked representation in institutions such as K-Electric and Sui Southern Gas Company, despite Karachi contributing 60 per cent of the city's revenue. Wahab expressed the belief that the city could function more efficiently if its elected officials were given greater autonomy.
