HANGU: The police claimed to have arrested six out of the 14 accused, who were allegedly involved in helping Afghan nationals acquire Pakistani identity cards in Hangu district on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, District Police Officer Nisar Ahmad Khan along with Sub-divisional Police Officer Amjad Hussain and Station House Officer Fayyaz Khan said that one Afghan national Matiullah, a resident of Khost province in Afghanistan, was in bid to acquire Pakistani national identity card with the name of Ahmad Zia.
Taking action on a tip-off, he said that the police arrested the accused, who had allegedly paid Rs0.9 million to an agent Zahoor alias Siddiqui.The official added that some 14 persons, including a secretary of the village council Walidur Rahman and an official of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) were involved in crime.
He said that the accused tempted a 70-year old woman in return for money to show the accused as her son.The arrested accused were identified as Matiullah, Pervez Khan, Islam Badshah, Walidur Rahman, Muhammad Zahoor, Abid and Javed while raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining accused.
The DPO said that cases were registered against the accused under relevant sections of law and investigation was going on.
