Workshop on sustainable buildings attracts stakeholders
PESHAWAR: A consultative workshop titled “The Transformation of the Construction Sector in Pakistan: A Pathway towards Clean, Green, and Sustainable Buildings” drew the participation of various stakeholders in Islamabad on Monday.
A press release said the project was a collaborative effort between the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar and the National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NEECA) in Islamabad, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through GIZ Pakistan.
Prof Dr Iftikhar Hussain, the vice-chancellor of UET Peshawar, announced the establishment of a Building Energy Research Center at UET Peshawar as part of the project.
Dr Muhammad Irshad, project manager at GIZ, welcomed delegates from various organisations. Dr Gul Muhammad, director of CISNR, stressed the need for stakeholder coordination to address energy source depletion by 2030.Dr Naveed Ahmad, the project lead, outlined future consultations to develop a technical framework for the National Energy Conservation Building Code 2023.
Qazi Muhammad Naeem, CEO of PEDO, presented concluding remarks at the workshop. Prof Dr Sahar Noor, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering at UET Peshawar, Dr Rashid Rehan, director of NIUIP UET Peshawar, and other senior officials from UET Peshawar and NEECA were also present.
