A ceremony honouring students from underprivileged backgrounds for successfully passing matric exams was held at a school in the Gadap Town area of Karachi.
The first batch of 14 students, which included eight girls, graduated from the Green Crescent Trust’s (GCT) school at Bakshuo Goth in Gadap Town after passing their Secondary School Certificate Examinations this year.
Shabbir Latif, a trustee at the GCT, vowed to upgrade the education facility to degree classes in the coming years, to help students from underprivileged families have a bright future. He urged the graduating students to pursue further education regardless of the hardships they and their families would endure during the process.
Saad Zia, another GCT trustee, said that the partnership between the trust and Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) for the school was an example for other charitable and non-profit organizations to collaborate to lessen the number of out-of-school children in the province.
During the ceremony, an IT lab was also inaugurated at the school which enrolls 250 students. According to GCT, they are building another campus on one-acre land in the same locality to expand their academic facilities as per the SEF standards.
