The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed on Monday to have apprehended a gang involved in changing IMEI numbers of stolen mobiles phones and selling them.
SIU SSP Junaid Shaikh said that two suspects, Habibullah and Suleman, were arrested in the MA Jinnah Road area, and 156 mobile phones, 12 laptops, and 186 tablets were recovered from them.
He added that the arrested suspects used to change IMEI numbers of stolen phones and sell them at lower prices. The officer claimed that the suspects were in contact with street criminals who provided them with stolen mobile phones. An FIR has been registered against the suspects, while further investigation is underway.
