ISLAMABAD: Former Senate chairman Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, while condemning the recent terrorist attacks on the armed and security forces, called for a need to fully implement the National Action Plan (NAP) and to hold elections on the date given by the Election of Pakistan (ECP), so that an elected government can adopt a regional strategy to stop the acts of terrorism in Pakistan.

"The fight against terrorism is a national cause and the people of Pakistan stand with the security apparatus in this battle,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Fourteen soldiers were martyred when two security vehicles moving from Pasni to Ormara were ambushed on Friday. The same day a bomb blast targeted the police in DG Khan. On Saturday, there was an attack on a PAF training base in Mianwali which was thwarted as all the nine terrorists were killed.

Rabbani said the number of terror attacks in Pakistan, in the first half of 2023, saw a total of 271 attacks claiming 389 lives and 656 injured. "The second half looks no better," he said.

Senator Raza Rabbani said it should be noted that the increase of direct attacks on the armed forces follows the return of illegal Afghans from Pakistan.
