A main water pipeline for Karachi ruptured in Steel Town on Sunday, halting supply to some areas of the city, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) said.
According to KWSC spokesperson, a 54-inch water supply line broke in the Steel Town area, due to which the city is being supplied with only 70 million gallons of water from the Pipri reservoir.
The spokesperson said that because of the disruption, water supply to the Bin Qasim, Landhi, Korangi, Ibrahim Hyderi, Akhtar Colony, Defence and Kashmir Colony areas would be affected. The city would face a water shortage of 60 million gallons, he added.
He said that repair work on the damaged line has been started on an urgent basis and it would be completed within the next 36 hours. He advised the city residents to save water and use it judiciously to prevent any inconvenience.
