WANA: Over 200 medical stores, private clinics, and private hospitals have been closed for the past two days, causing a severe shortage of medicines in the Lower South Waziristan tribal district.
Discussing the situation, All Medical Stores Association general secretary Muhammad Aslam stated that the closures occurred for the first time after the merger of Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following a directive from the drug authorities.
He stressed the need for the government to also open medical centers in Wana, where people not only access medicines but also acquire diplomas.
He said that Wana is located far from Peshawar, and having such a center in Wana would provide diploma training facilities as well.
They have also called on the army chief, corps commander Peshawar, and other high-ranking officials to take notice of the situation. Local residents said the closure of medical stores had made it difficult for people to access necessary medications.
Efforts were made to contact the district administration and the area drug inspector to seek their perspective, but they did not respond.
